Summary of Quran Chapter 54, Surah Al-Qamar, The Moon
This Surah (chapter) was revealed in Mecca at the time when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) demonstrated the miracle of splitting the moon. That's why it is named Surah Qamar (The Moon). It is narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari by Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when this Surah was revealed, she was a young girl who used to play.
The subject matter of this Surah, like other Meccan Surahs, calls the Arab disbelievers to believe in the Oneness of Allah, Prophethood, and the Hereafter. In the process, it briefly mentions the stories of the nations of 'Aad and Thamud, the Prophets Noah and Lot (peace be upon them), and the tragic fate of Pharaoh. It emphasizes repeatedly that Allah has made the Quran easy for admonition, so who will take advice? (And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to understand and remember, then is there any who will remember (or receive admonition?).
