Summary of Quran Chapter 11 Surah Hud Prophet Hud

This Surah is also Meccan, ie it was revealed in Mecca, and its subjects are similar to the subjects of the previous sura, except that the events of the Prophets were briefly described in Surah Yunus. They are described in detail in this surah. For example, the events of Hazrat Noah, Hazrat Hud, Hazrat Saleh, Hazrat Shoaib, and Hazrat Lut (as) are narrated in more detail in a very eloquent and effective style.

The point is that disobedience to God Almighty has destroyed great nations, and when a person deserves the wrath and punishment of God Almighty because of this disobedience, no matter how close he is to the Prophet. This relationship cannot save him from divine punishment, just as Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) could not save his son and Prophet Lut (peace be upon him) could not save his wife.

In this surah, the incidents of torment are so effectively narrated and the command to persevere in the religion is so emphatically stated that once the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: I have become old with Surah Hud and similar surahs. Due to the warnings given in these surahs, Prophet Mohammad PBUH also had a fear about your ummah lest they too should be subjected to any such punishment for their disobedience.

“It is Sūrah Hūd and her sisters [i.e. similar chapters] which have me grow old.” In another narration, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) named all the chapters and said, “It is Sūrahs Hūd, Wāqi’ah, Mursalāt, Naba’ and Takwīr (Chapters in Quran) which have made me grow old.”

The evidence for this is the Hadith reported by Al Tirmizi and Al-Hakim. Al Zahbi considered this Hadith sound in his comments on Al Mustadrak.
