SIM Registration Pakistan:

SIM Registration: How To Check Registered SIMs on CNIC

People in Pakistan are now aware of the necessity of ensuring their cell phone numbers are registered under their name. If you are using an unregistered SIM, it is essential to register it immediately.

Step 1: Check out the existing owner of your SIM that currently you are using. In your message area, type your Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) number and send it to 668. You will receive detailed information regarding ownership. If the SIM is registered in your name, consider yourself safe; otherwise, get your SIM registered as soon as possible.

Step 2: For SIM registration, take your SIM card along with your original CNIC to your service provider's customer service center and ask them to register the SIM in your name. Ensure both the SIM card and original CNIC are present.

Step 3: There are several benefits of registering your SIM. Using an unregistered SIM is unlawful and may lead to penalties. Cellular companies are actively blocking unregistered SIMs. If you lose your SIM, you must provide an original ID card to get a duplicate. Unregistered SIMs make it impossible to obtain a replacement. This ensures security and reduces identity fraud.

Biometric Verification

Say “No” to Illegal SIMs!

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs), introduced the Multi Random Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS) to ensure safety. The system is used for:

  • Buying or activating a new SIM
  • Getting a duplicate SIM
  • Changing SIM ownership
  • Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
  • Re-verification of SIM
  • Disowning a SIM

The Danger of Illegal SIMs Registered in Your Name

Illegal SIM cards are those obtained using fraudulent or illegal means, such as false identity documents or stolen information. If such a SIM card is registered in your name without your knowledge or consent, it can pose several dangers, including:
  • Criminal Activity: Criminals can use illegal SIMs for fraud, identity theft, and cybercrime. You may be falsely implicated.
  • Harassment: Illegal SIMs used for harassment or threats can lead to legal consequences for you.
  • Financial Loss: Fraudulent transactions via illegal SIMs may hold you liable.
  • Compromised Privacy: Your personal information and contacts can be accessed.
  • National Security Threats: Illegal SIMs may be used by criminals or terrorists.

In summary, having an illegal SIM registered in your name is a serious risk. Ensure all SIMs are obtained legally and protect your personal information from fraud.

Steps to Ensure Safety

  • Only visit authorized MBVS-enabled outlets, such as Customer Service Centers, franchises, or registered retailers.
  • Read and understand the terms and conditions for purchasing a SIM.
  • Provide a valid CNIC and fingerprint on the BVS scanner for verification.
  • Be cautious of fraudsters asking for fingerprints on unofficial devices or documents.
  • Collect your SIM after biometric verification. If the agent doesn’t provide the SIM, report it to PTA with details like CNIC, visit date, company, and outlet information.
  • Individuals unable to complete biometric verification due to physical limitations can use alternative means at designated outlets.
  • Avoid schemes requiring biometric verification for prizes or gifts.

Who is More Likely to be Affected?

Females are more likely to have their identity misused, with 85% of fraud cases involving illegal SIMs registered in their names.
