Summary of Quran Chapter 24 An-Nur The Light
The main theme of this surah is to give necessary instructions and orders to prevent immorality and obscenity in society and to promote chastity and chastity. Among the characteristics of the believers that were described at the beginning of the previous chapter, one of the most important characteristics was that they protect their private parts, that is, they lead a modest life. Now in this surah, the essential requirements of leading a virtuous life have been described.
Therefore, in the very beginning of the Surah, the Shariah punishment for adultery has been stated, and at the same time, it has been stated that just as adultery is a very heinous crime, in the same way, accusing an innocent person of adultery without medical evidence is not only a grave sin. Rather, severe legal punishment has been prescribed for him. The prevailing belief is that this surah was revealed in the sixth year after Hijrah. That year, Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) received information about an Arab tribe, the Banu al-Mustaliq, that they were gathering an army to attack him.
The Last Prophet dashed their ambitions by preempting his attack. On his return from this journey, the hypocrites leveled a baseless accusation against Hazrat Aisha (RA) and made her widely known in Madinah. Some sincere Muslims were also affected. Verses 11 to 20 of this Surah were revealed to announce the acquittal of Hazrat Aisha, and promises of severe punishment were given to those who committed the heinous crime of slander and to those who spread nudity and obscenity in society. Also, as a first step to protecting chastity and abstinence, women have been ordered to veil in this Surah, and the necessary manners and procedures for visiting other people's houses have been explained.
