Summary of Quran Chapter 99 Al-Zalzalah The Earthquake

Summary of Quran Chapter 99 Al-Zalzalah

Surah Al-Zalzalah is the 99th chapter of the Quran, composed of 8 verses. It focuses on the Day of Judgment, where the earth will shake violently and people will be resurrected to be judged based on their deeds. The surah emphasizes that every action, no matter how small, will be accounted for.

There is a difference of opinion among commentators regarding whether Surah Al-Zalzalah is a Makki or Madani surah. However, upon reflection on its style and themes, it becomes evident that it is a Makki surah. In terms of its virtue, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarded it as equal to one thousand verses. This surah, along with the following three surahs (Surah Al-Adiyat, Surah Al-Qari'ah, and Surah At-Takathur), holds special significance regarding the warning about the Hereafter.

Hadith: Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, recited this verse, “On that day the earth will tell its stories,” (99:4) and he said, “Do you know what its stories are?” They said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” The Prophet said, “Verily, its stories are that it will bear witness against every servant and maidservant to what they did on its surface, saying this person did such on such day. These are its stories.”
