Surah Al-Adiyat is the fifth and final Surah among the five chapters of the Qur'an that begin in a similar style, with a series of successive oaths. Along with this Surah, the list includes Surah As-Saffat, Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Surah Al-Mursalat, and Surah An-Nazi'at. There is a difference of opinion among the commentators regarding whether this Surah is Makki or Madani, but based on its content and style of expression, it is clearly an early Makki Surah. All commentators unanimously agree that the oaths at the beginning of this Surah refer to horses.
