Summary of Quran Chapter 104 Surah Al Humazah The Slanderer

Summary of Quran Chapter 104 Surah Al Humazah The Slanderer.

In Surah Al-Asr, the human race is warned of a great potential loss, and at the same time, the way to avoid that loss is also explained. Now, in Surah Al-Humazah, the other side of the picture is shown, highlighting the character of those people who pay no attention to warnings or reminders about the Hereafter. They blindly rush down a path that, in reality, leads to destruction and ruin.

When a person does not have a noble goal or higher purpose in life, their personality begins to decline morally and spiritually. As they continue down this path, they reach such depths of degradation that no trace of goodness or virtue remains in their character.

Such a person, while living in society, engages in backbiting, mocks others, attacks people's honor, and usurps their wealth. Even when they appear to perform a good deed, it often hides some selfish motive behind it. In essence, every action they take reflects their low mindset, and every behavior exposes their corrupt character.

And when the majority of people in a society adopt such a degraded and vile attitude, that society as a whole becomes deprived of all forms of goodness. It eventually takes the form of a filthy and decaying heap of moral and social corruption.

Seeing such a society, a sensitive person naturally sinks into the deepest depths of despair. On the other hand, the philosophers and intellectuals of that society began to feel justified in issuing verdicts about human nature, claiming that man is merely a product of animalistic desires and lusts, a bundle of filth, and that there is no trace of goodness or virtue in him at all.

As a response to such negative views and ideologies, Surah At-Tin presents the noble character and moral excellence of four great personalities of humanity—Prophets Nuh (Noah), Musa (Moses), Isa (Jesus), and Muhammad (peace be upon them all)—as proof that mankind was originally created in the best of forms (Indeed, We created humans in the best form. 95:4).

However, when a human being becomes heedless of this innate nobility and forgets his true greatness, he continues to fall until he reaches the lowest of the low (But We will reduce them to the lowest of the low ˹in Hell˺. 95:5).

There is no doubt that when a human strips off the robe of human dignity and makes the satisfaction of his base animal instincts the sole purpose of his life, he becomes more lustful than a pig, more spiteful than a camel, and more ruthless than a wolf.

In other words, when this (the noblest of creation) becomes like a beast, he surpasses all animals in indecency, selfishness, and bloodthirstiness.
